Congratulations to Winifred Varley who, yesterday, became the new President of the YLCGA. There was a good number of Otley members who attended the event and for whose support she was grateful. This honour to Winifred and to Otley Golf Club follows her being the County Captain in 2008 and she will undoubtedly lead the county with the same pride and drive now as she did then.
Please click here /uploads/otley/File/Forum Meeting - November 2021.pdf for the notes from the Golf Forum meeting held on 10th November. These are also on the website (under Notice Board on the Home page) and on the various notice boards in the clubhouse.
Reminder that the advance bookings for New Year's Eve now need to be transferred on to a booking form from the hall and then returned to the office with the accompanying payment. The event is very close to being full so, to guarantee your tables, these advance bookings need confirming this weekend.
Ticket sales for the Club Party Night and Santa's Visit are available from the bar for the Party Night and the hall for Santa.
There is a new booking procedure for dining at the next Quiz Evening on 15th December. The booking sheet is now in the hall and offers a choice of three mains and desserts with coffee.
The two 'Alex's' - in this case Calder and Harm, are playing in the final of the Junior European Open next week. This is being played in Cadiz and both are in action on Sunday hoping to qualify for the actual final on Thursday. I'll provide updates on their progress as the stages develop and this can also be monitored by putting golforganiser.com - junior europeanopen into your browser. Some of the play will be covered by Sky TV and will be shown at some point.
Mention of Alex Harm - Alex is organising a trio of golf days, the profits from which will go towards funding tournament and general costs of Alex's second year as a professional. Alex had an encouraging rookie year and would like to build on this, however, without support, the costs are prohibitive. One of these trio of events will be played at Otley on Sunday 9th January - the sign up sheet is in the 19th and includes details of the event. Alex will be very appreciative of your support.
Have a great weekend!
Seasonal Social News
Quiz Evenings will shortly get underway with the first one taking place on Wednesday 13th October. Other quiz evenings are scheduled for 17th November and 15th December and another three such evenings in January, February and March. Normal arrangements and formats, as identified in yesterday's email, will apply.
A Club Party Night will replace the Christmas Candlelight on Saturday 11th December. The intentions are to run a Christmas Themed Buffet from 7.30 - 9.00pm followed by dancing and general merriment. No pre-ordering of food will be necessary, tickets priced at £20 each will be available from behind the bar from Saturday 20th November.
In chronological order, the next event will be on the following day - Sunday 12th December. The Winter League will take a mid-season break before resuming again in January and all involved enjoy the buffet lunch which will be followed at 2.00pm by the Snooker Final.
The following Sunday 19th December is the day of Santa's Visit. For some this is the highlight of the Club's social calendar, for others it's a day to keep as far away from the Club as possible! The clubhouse is usually sold out for lunch which precedes the arrival of Santa at 4.30pm. Can't pretend it's anything other than a manic day but, nevertheless, a thoroughly enjoyable one. Booking forms will be available from the hall on Thursday 18th November - for those hoping to receive a present from Santa, the event is limited to believers and children aged eight and under.
The Christmas social programme culminates with the New Year's Eve extravaganza. This will follow the successful format of previous years with an eight-course tasting menu of the highest quality followed by dancing, bubbles and fireworks (t&c's apply) at midnight. The price of £44.50 pp represents great value for money - it's a fantastic evening! Booking forms will be available from Friday 12th November.
Full details for each event will be available at the appropriate time.
