Otley Golf Club
** Results of the Week's Competitions **
My President’s Day yesterday enjoyed glorious weather throughout what was a very enjoyable day.
For the first time the competition was open to both men and ladies and in spite of the competing attractions of the football World Cup Final and the Wimbledon Men’s singles Final, 108 golfers took part.
The Stableford competition for the President’s Trophy produced the following result:-
1st - Peter Hardaker 43 points
2nd - Alisa Bearpark 42 points
3rd - Simon Wilcock 40 points
4th - Mick Totten 40 points
(Prizes & vouchers will be presented on Presentation Night)
Nearest the pin (15th hole) - John McGhee (80cm)
(The prize of 1 dozen golf balls will be presented on Presentation Night)
My heartfelt thanks go to the men who kindly acted as Starters, the men and ladies who dispensed the refreshments at the Halfway House, the Greens Staff who presented the course in super condition, Pro Steve and his assistants and to Nash behind the bar and the other members of the House team who helped make the day a success.
Special thanks must also go to Brian and Morag Wilkinson for all the work they did behind the scenes. Their help was invaluable.
I think my partner, Christine’s, refreshments at the Halfway House once again proved popular with the competitors. She appreciated that many players took the opportunity to thank her personally.
This year’s competition for the President’s Trophy was a significant step forward for Otley Golf Club and I am pleased to have played my part in taking that step.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the day by playing or helping in the background.

Sunday is another big day in our golfing calendar as it is, John Beaumont's, President's Day. You will all have seen the draw for your starting times and remembered that due to the possible conflict of interest, the President has deferred the Prize Presentation part of the day so as to be included in the main Prize Presentation Evening on Sunday 7th October. The list for Starters is on the board in the 19th - still requiring a couple, please. Good luck to everyone playing in the competition and I'm sure you will all join with me in wishing, John, a successful and memorable day.
Next week there are several team matches and visiting parties and the week concludes with the Dawn Chorus Mixed Greensomes shotgun start competition on Sunday. All competitors will be informed of their starting times and these will be organised to free up the first tee as soon as possible. The golf will be followed by a glass of fizz and a full English breakfast. This is, of course, the final day of the Open so everyone will be welcome to watch the dramas of the golf unfold on the clubhouse television.
The entry sheet for the Gent's Seniors' competition on Sunday 12th August, is on the board in the 19th. On the same board is the entry sheet for the Invitation Day on Saturday 4th August, as previously mentioned this has attracted some good support but there is still room for more.
Thanks to Phil Tomkinson, Alex Harm and Will Bradley for doing their utmost in the Yorkshire Union Second Division Team Championship, played at Ilkley on Wednesday. Although we finished up being relegated by one shot from the Second Division and will start next year's campaign in the Third Division, the lads performed to the best of their efforts.
