Otley Golf Club
** The Week's Competitions **
The 111th AGM of Otley Golf Club was held on Wednesday 7th February. After the business of the evening had been transacted, John Beaumont was elected as President and Andy Harm and Morag Wilkinson as Gentlemen’s and Ladies’ Captain respectively. All three promised to serve and represent the Club to the best of their ability.
On the Sunday following the AGM, a good number of members, family and friends braved the biting wind to witness a Triple Captains’ Drive-In. Morag and Andy both hit handsome drives and the third member of the triumvirate, Junior Captain, Dan Clark-Coates, hit a cracker of a drive a long way down the middle of the fairway. Following the Drive-In, all members were invited to join the Captains for lunch.

J Ettenfield & J Waters – 19 points
Nearest the pin in two on 14th – C Hughes
(played over nine holes)
M Totten & D Curry – 24 points
Nearest the pin on the 2nd – R Wade
It was Morag Wilkinson, on the final day before she assumed the position of Ladies’ Captain, who partnered, Sandy Fordham, to victory in the Ladies 4BBB Medal. Results were-
1st M Wilkinson & S Fordham - 51
2nd M Mowat & A Bearpark – 52
3 rd J Ettenfield & A Barrett - 53

It is with regret that we report the passing away of Betty Sharp on Tuesday 6th February 2018. Betty had been a member since the 1960’s and was the mother of our 2015 Ladies’ Captain, Jane Hawke. There will be a service of Thanksgiving at 1.45pm on Thursday 1st March 2018 at St Johns Church in Menston, followed by light refreshments at the Golf Club. Our thoughts are with Jane and all her family and friends.
Thanks to everyone who supported the Club’s AGM on Wednesday evening. An interesting and informative meeting resulted in the election of the Officers and Derek Goldie and Carol Hughes were elected to serve for three years on the Management Committee.
The AGM precedes the Captains’ Drive-In on Sunday and as previously notified this will operate from two shotgun starts at 9.30am. The golf will be followed by the Drive-In at 12.30pm on the first tee (weather dependent) followed by a light lunch in the clubhouse – everybody will be most welcome. Competitors should already be aware of their starting hole, however, there will be notices in the tunnel and Pro’s Shop advising of such.
The Winter League returns next Sunday with the tee reserved from 8.16 – 9.28am.
The revised gentlemen’s competition rules are in the locker room and on the website. Ladies revised rules to follow.
It is a momentous day for Greenkeeper, Derek Chew, as today is his final day at work before he retires. A small presentation will be made to him in the lounge at 3.00pm today. If anyone would like to attend and show their appreciation to Derek they will be made most welcome – Derek drinks beer!
