The Weekly Winners 

** The Week's Competitions

Gillian Mowat successfully defended her Centenary Trophy success of 12 months earlier. The competition was played in conjunction with the Club Medal and Gillian’s nett 75 in winning the first division was the best score of the day. Results were:-

Nine hole Am-Am Stableford winners – A Ridyard, S Thompson & S Thomson – 30 points

In the increasingly popular Gent’s Nine-Hole Mid-Week competitions, the Junior Captain-Elect, Dan Clark-Coates, emerged as the fairly comfortable winner. With a strong, gusty wind to contend with his 37 points was three better than second placed, Tom Caton who, in turn, finished one point better off than Jonathan Brook.

Peter Cartwright was the winner of Peter Whittle’s Rabbits’ Captain’s Prize. Played as part of the Gent’s Stableford the Rabbits’ competition winners were:-

** President’s Day **

John Beaumont’s President’s Day was the highlight of another busy week at Otley Golf Club. The wet conditions experienced by the early players became better as the day went on and the majority of the 161 competitors enjoyed the refreshments provided at the halfway house. At the presentation and buffet meal, Mr Beaumont, assisted by, Christine, presented a total of 12 prizes and thanked everyone for their raffle entries that had raised in excess of £380 for the Captains’ Charities – see pics.. Prize winners were:-

President’s Prize – A Thompson 42 points

Runner Up – R Toft 41 points

1st Division Winner – M Grimmitt 38 points

2nd Division Winner - D Howarth 39 points

3rd Division Winner – G Ballinger 41 points

** Ladies’ Captain’s Day **

Pat Harrison’s Ladies’’ Captain’s Day had to be postponed for a week following torrential rains on the original day. Although the weather was far from perfect on the main day of the second attempt, the day passed smoothly and in front of a full clubhouse at the Prize Presentation in the evening, Pat paid tribute to all who had helped in making the occasion such an enjoyable success. Amongst the prize-winners were those who had competed in the competition on the Saturday, some on the Sunday and some on the Tuesday. Kirsten Parker was the winner of the ladies’ Captain’s main prize and the Mary Bell Trophy. In addition, Pat, awarded prizes to the following:-

** The team representing Otley in the third division of the Yorkshire Union Team Championship, were rewarded for their commitment by finishing in sixth place in a heavily curtailed event. This will mean promotion to the second division to be played on 12th July. The inclement weather in the earlier part of the week directed focus on home soil to the Gentlemen’s Medal and the Rabbits’ Chairman’s Prize. The two competitions were combined and produced some good scoring amongst the higher placed finishers in each division. George Muscroft, playing off scratch, won the first division although it was the Gents’ Captain, Brian Wilkinson, who won Stef Kowalczyk’s Rabbits’ Chairman’s Prize. Medal results were:-
