Normally played into the prevailing breeze the first hole is a tough start. A drive between the trees on the left and the marker post should set up a long second shot into the green.

Any tee shot to the right will mean you are likely playing from the rough as the fairway slopes from left to right. The green has a steep slope just in front so you will need to carry the ball all the way to the flag.

The tricky, undulating green gets pretty quick in summer. Be careful if the flag is positioned front right as holding the green can be a challenge.

Andy Harm Board Director and Chair of Greens Committee:

"This is a tough start to the round especially from the White Tees, but a well placed tee shot to the left of the marker post can find a flat lie and a great line into a tricky green. Often into the prevailing wind, a sloping fairway and a raised green protected by bunkers can make opening with a par a pretty big ask. The view up onto Ilkley Moor is just the beginning of some fantastic views available as you play this opening stretch of holes."
